Sunday, September 28, 2026, CSO Sue and CNO Steve hosted our very first Spry event.

The first in a series, this “Stories, Smiles and Memories” program topic was “Food For Thought: The Stuff We Ate” was hosted by the Edgewater Branch of the Chicago Public Library.

For almost two hours, we shared stories about the foods we enjoyed (and didn’t like so much) when we were kids. From TV Dinners to the craziest candies. Steve reminisced about going to the neighborhood, family-owned grocery store and later to big supermarkets that replaced them. Sue brought back memories of sweet treats from the past, from Chuckles (did anyone ever eat the black ones?), to Pixie Stix. She even had some treats for us, including a pack of Teaberry gum (we watched the commercial fro the 60’s where they did the Teaberry Shuffle).

You can download the handout here.
We played “The Price Was Right“: where you had to guess the 1965 price for items like a can of Campbell’s Chicken Noodle Soup, or the pack of Teaberry gum.
The next Spry event will be Friday, October 23, at 2:00 PM at the Edgewater Liibrary. The theme will be “Games, Hobbies and Collectibles: The Stuff We Did For Fun.” If you live in the Chicago area, especially anywhere near the Edgewater community, stop by and remember with us!
